Boris (Woody Allen) grew up in a bustling Russian family, where he was the most insignificant in stature and courage among many brothers. In Boris's eyes, his cousin Sonja (Diane Keaton) has always been a muse-like figure. However, Sonja would rather marry a fisherman than choose Boris. The challenges for Boris extend far beyond this; as war breaks out, he is compelled to take up arms and go to the battlefield in loyalty to his country. One day, by chance, Boris becomes a war hero, and upon returning home, after much struggle, he surprisingly wins the heart of Sonja, who has now become a widow. They form a happy family that everyone envies. However, the good times are short-lived; war strikes again as Napoleon invades Moscow, and Boris must return to the battlefield. Unable to endure the pain of separation, Sonja decides to take matters into her own hands—assassinate Napoleon. Thus, a pair of hapless spouses set out with their hunting rifles...
