Harrington (Charles Coburn) and his daughter Jean (Barbara Stanwyck) make a living through con artistry, cleverly teaming up to earn a fortune. One day, aboard a cruise ship, they encounter a young man named Charles (Henry Fonda), who has just returned from the Amazon rainforest, having inherited a substantial fortune.
