This is the fifth collaboration between Wahlberg and director Peter Berg since "Lone Survivor," "Boston Strong," "Deepwater Horizon," and "22 Miles," based on the novel of the same name by Robert B. Parker, which was continued by Ace Atkins after Parker's death. It is one of eight series of mystery novels centered around the main character, Spenser. Netflix has reached an agreement with Parker's estate to create a series of films based on the Spenser character. The film will differ from the novel, which tells the story of Spenser’s transformation from a wisecracking boxer to a private detective in Boston. The movie begins with Spenser’s release from prison, where he has been stripped of his private detective license. He is drawn back into Boston's dark world of crime as he uncovers the shocking truth behind a murder case and the conspiracy behind it. Neal Moritz (from the "Fast & Furious" series and "Prison Break") produces, and Sean O'Keefe writes the screenplay.
