In New York's Chinatown, Chinese gangs abound. Chinese officer Chen Li (played by Chow Yun-fat) has achieved remarkable success by colluding with gang forces and balancing the interests of various gangs, rising steadily through the ranks. However, this tranquility is suddenly shattered. A new gang, primarily composed of members from Fujian, has arrived in Chinatown, calling themselves the "Dragon Gang." They engage in fierce turf wars with the existing gangs, escalating the conflict to a point where even Chen Li cannot intervene. This situation draws the attention of the New York police department, which dispatches the young and promising officer Danny (played by Mark Wahlberg) to investigate the gangs in Chinatown. After several gangs' attempts to bribe the upright Danny fail, they decide to eliminate him. Will the conflicted Chen Li stand by and watch his comrade get killed?
