On an ordinary day in New York, retiring old detective Jack Mosley (played by Bruce Willis) is given a thankless task: to walk a prisoner to the courthouse to testify through 16 blocks. This should have been an extremely easy task, as the drive from the police station to the courthouse takes only 15 minutes, and the only trouble seems to be the incessant chatter from the criminal Eddie (played by Mos Def). However, things are far more complicated. An assassination attempt on Eddie reveals the truth behind the scenes: the testimony is merely a cover, and a group of corrupt police officers led by Jack's colleague and old friend Frank (played by David Morse) plans to eliminate the witness using Jack's escort of Eddie as an opportunity. After struggling with his conscience, Jack decides to protect Eddie in pursuit of justice, only to become a target for the NYPD. The 16 blocks have never felt so long...
