The famous actor and director Takehei Mukai (played by Rintaro Nakasugi) is filming a tragic movie about a couple who both suffer from cancer and endure great pain. In reality, Mukai is an alcoholic with a hedonistic lifestyle, living extremely irregularly. One day, he is suddenly diagnosed with advanced stomach cancer, with less than a year to live. His wife Mariko (played by Nobuko Miyamoto), who initially planned to live apart, must use lies to care for her severely ill husband. Shortly after his first surgery, Mukai collapses on set and returns to the hospital. Although he maintains an optimistic attitude, he accidentally learns of his true condition and is deeply mentally affected. In extreme pain, Mukai even attempts suicide using the method employed by the female lead in the movie. Wandering on the edge of death, he experiences a strange journey and begins to gain insight into life…
