Bruce (Jim Carrey) is a reporter in Buffalo, New York. At thirty, instead of becoming mature and independent, he is clumsy and finds himself constantly struggling. Bruce is unaware of his shortcomings and always shifts the blame for everything wrong onto others or God. Fortunately, his humor is well-loved by the local audience, which keeps him from being fired by the TV station. One day, Bruce wakes up to a string of bad luck: first, he can't sleep due to restlessness, then his girlfriend makes a terrible breakfast, and to top it off, his dog urinates on the couch... Unable to take it any longer, Bruce points to the sky and endlessly curses God for his unfairness. God actually hears him and comes down from heaven! God allows Bruce to be Him for a day, to manage the world. Excited, Bruce discovers that he really can do anything, and he starts his crazy antics...
