The most controversial topic film in Russia last year, the rare genius director Balabanov (known for "Cargo 200") returns to showcase a Russian-style deadly provocation, crafting an absurd political satire with Texas Chainsaw Massacre-style horror, delivering a shocking experience throughout. The story takes place in the last years of the Soviet Union, during an extremely decadent and totalitarian moment, where the daughter of a high-ranking party official goes out to drink and is subsequently imprisoned and abused by a police officer. In the latter part of the film, the officer enacts an apocalyptic scenario in a bedroom, while his mother remains indifferent to the drunkenness next door; the absurd dialogues and strange music surprisingly evoke laughter, with a military officer who resembles Putin adding further intrigue. The film won Best Director at the Gijón International Film Festival in Spain.
