Badi (played by Homayoun Ershadi) drives his car aimlessly through the outskirts filled with construction sites. He picks up a new soldier and shares his experiences from when he served in the army, then makes a request: he wants the soldier to pay to bury his body after he commits suicide. The soldier panics and runs away. Badi continues searching for someone to bury him, but all the homeless people on the construction site and the seminary students refuse his request. An old man named Bagheri (played by Abdolrahman Bagheri), who works at a museum, gets into Badi’s car. Bagheri once attempted suicide but was ultimately persuaded to live by the sweet taste of cherries. He agrees to Badi's request to help cure his son’s illness. Badi hesitates outside the museum, feeling a sense of doubt... This film won the Palme d'Or at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival and the Best Foreign Language Film Award from the Boston Society of Film Critics in 1998.
