Di is from the mountainous area in northern Vietnam, shrouded in fog. She is 12 years old and is a Hmong girl. In this ethnic minority, girls often marry at a very young age. Before marriage, there is usually a controversial custom of "bride kidnapping," where the girl is "taken" by her future husband on New Year's Eve, followed by negotiations between the two families. Di’s sister and mother are no exception, so it is not unusual for women and girls to openly discuss sex and married life during pre-wedding preparations. At the same time, Di is also attending school, where she is exposed to entirely different values. Even Di's mother, in her own way, tries to warn her daughter about the issue of child marriage. Here, children are influenced by traditional culture while also connecting with the outside world. Director Yan Xiaole gracefully narrates the conflict between the long-standing customs and modern values. As her debut feature documentary, the film focuses on the challenges faced by a Hmong girl, but most importantly, it is a moving film about a strong adolescent, not just a victim.
