The story takes place at the end of World War II, where the German army has built a massive submarine fuel depot and a secret rocket launch base on a small island in Greece. Even though they are like grasshoppers after autumn, the Nazis remain arrogant, treating prisoners of war cruelly and forcing them to work overtime. Chino (Telly Savalas) is the leader of the local armed resistance, and his ultimate goal is to destroy everything the Germans have on the island. The prisoners of war Blake (David Niven), Nat (Richard Roundtree), and Dottie (Stefanie Powers), who are detained in the POW camp, recognize this and get in touch with Chino, attempting to violently seize control of the island. The operation is very successful; former POW camp commander Richter (Roger Moore) is now a captive. After persuasion from others, Richter understands the futility of resistance and decides to team up with the local resistance groups to completely destroy the German stronghold on the island.
