This film is adapted from the 1956 film of the same name by German expressionist filmmaker Fritz Lang. Television journalist H.J. Nicholas (Jesse Metcalfe) and his friend Cauley Finray (Joel Moore) work in the investigative reporting section of a television station. During the coverage of a murder case, H.J. meets assistant district attorney Ella (Amber Tamblyn) from the district attorney's office, and he becomes suspicious of her boss, district attorney Martin Hunter (Michael Douglas), based on interrogation video footage she provides, suspecting he uses fabricated DNA evidence to win prosecution cases and pave the way for his gubernatorial campaign. At a dead end in his investigation, H.J. decides to execute a flawless plan with Cauley, deliberately acquiring various pieces of evidence to frame himself as the prime suspect in a prostitute murder case. During the trial, Cauley is supposed to present the footage they filmed to prove H.J. is not the killer, but dies in a car accident on his way to court. Facing a death sentence, H.J. has nowhere to turn but to seek help from Ella; can she prove his innocence?
