In April 1992, Los Angeles was filled with racial tension. There was a case that shocked citizens and ignited a nationwide riot: four white police officers were acquitted for beating a black man. This film recounts the events that took place in the police station just days before the verdict. The elite special investigations unit of the Los Angeles Police Department took on a highly publicized case involving four lives lost. During this time, detective Elton Perry (played by Kurt Russell) shares with rookie Bobby Tradd (played by Scott Speedman) the various corrupt and dark phenomena within the precinct; meanwhile, black officer Alonzo (played by Ving Rhames) is deeply dissatisfied with the police station and determined to get to the bottom of the situation. Thus, several officers uphold their conscience and sense of justice in a corrupt environment. The film exposes the inner workings of bribery, extortion, and torture within the Los Angeles Police Department at that time, these complex factors ultimately triggering a shocking riot among citizens across the nation.
