This series begins with the development of the atomic bomb and the rapid proliferation of nuclear weapons decades later, tracing the history of the Cold War from the dissolution of the Soviet Union to the rise of Vladimir Putin, and to the Russia-Ukraine war. The documentary "Turning Point: The Atomic Bomb and the Cold War" conducted over 100 interviews in 7 countries worldwide, revealing deep personal stories and showcasing how the Cold War changed lives and shaped world history. From survivors of the Hiroshima atomic bombing to extensive filming in Ukraine, Germany, and several former Soviet republics, the series includes interviews with seven current or former world leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and notable political figures such as NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, former CIA Director Robert Gates, and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. The series also features key figures from the Cold War era, including the famous German protest leader Julius Rosenberg, who helped bring down the Berlin Wall, and the son of Ethel Rosenberg, as well as one of the last extensive interviews with nuclear activist Daniel Ellsberg, who described America’s secret nuclear program as "institutional madness." This nine-part documentary explores the decades-long conflict between the US and the USSR against the backdrop of current events, clearly demonstrating that the impact of the Cold War continues to this day.
