In a car accident, Kei Nagai (played by Takeru Satoh) unexpectedly discovers that he is an "Ajin." Ajins look just like humans but possess incredible self-healing abilities and immortality. To obtain the mysterious powers of Ajins, the government arrests and imprisons all known Ajins, including Kei Nagai, conducting cruel live experiments on them, while publicly claiming that these actions are meant to protect Ajins. Likewise, Sato (played by Go Ayano), who is also an Ajin, saves Kei Nagai, hoping that he will join his side. Sato threatens the government with acts of terror, calling for the establishment of an Ajin autonomous region. Kei Nagai knows that Sato is inherently greedy and evil and is unwilling to comply, thus becoming Sato's enemy. Caught in the center of the whirlpool, Kei Nagai understands that this is not just a battle between Sato and himself, but a gamble between humans and Ajins.
