In Kyoto during the Heian period, there have been several incidents of samurai being killed outside the city gates. It is rumored that any samurai passing through this gate at night will see a beautiful woman (played by Taichi Yoshiko) walking alone. This woman is said to be a transformed demon, luring men with her beauty and taking their lives when they are off guard. The commoner samurai Gintoki (played by Nakamura Kichuemon), under the orders of the shogun Raiko (played by Sato Kei), comes to eliminate the demon. Outside the city gates, he encounters the female demon and discovers that she is actually his wife from his hometown. Gintoki goes to the mountains with his wife and reunites with his mother (played by Otowa Nobuko), whom he hasn't seen in many years. Gintoki regrets having believed the rumors and meets his wife every night. However, on the eighth day, he cannot find her, only his mother remains in the mountains. It is then that Gintoki realizes that his mother and wife are no longer human; his wife was sent back to the demon realm for harboring human emotions, and his current mother has become a demon filled with resentment and a desire for revenge...
