Twin siblings Jeanne (Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin) and Simon (Maxim Gaudette) receive their deceased mother Nawal’s (Lubna Azabal) will, but after its contents are read, they find it hard to accept: one part is addressed to their father, whom they have never met; the other is for her third child—a brother they didn't even know existed. The film skillfully navigates two different timelines: the mother’s lifelong search for her eldest son, and the siblings’ journey to the Middle East to fulfill their mother’s last wishes to find their father and brother. The deeper they dig, the more tangled and shocking the truths become. This film is adapted from the acclaimed play by Canadian francophone writer Wajdi Mouawad. Director Denis Villeneuve was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 83rd Academy Awards.
