In the future world, after losing his beloved son, genius scientist Dr. Tenma (voiced by Nicolas Cage) creates the robot Astro Boy (voiced by Freddie Highmore) as a replacement for his son to find comfort. Although Astro Boy possesses the emotions and memories of the doctor's son, and his advanced programming continually enhances his feelings and makes him empathetic, the doctor cannot accept the pain of losing his child and treats Astro Boy incorrectly, believing he is not human and eventually discards him.
