Jamie (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) comes from a medical family, is eloquent and passionate, and is a top salesman at an electronics store. However, his luck with women is so overwhelming that he gets fired by his boss for being intimate with a female colleague during work hours. Subsequently, after being brainwashed multiple times by Pfizer, he becomes a pharmaceutical sales representative. To break into the regional market, he figures out the ins and outs of a certain hospital and decides to target the attending physician, Stan. He exchanges a $1,000 check for an intern position, moving around the examination rooms. One day, he accidentally encounters Maggie (played by Anne Hathaway), a female patient receiving treatment for Parkinson's disease, and inadvertently catches a glimpse of her breast. Just when the playboy thinks he has struck gold, Maggie retaliates by hitting him with her bag and even takes a photo of him. To restore his reputation, he uses connections to get her number and asks her out. Unexpectedly, this date leads them into an inexplicable intimate relationship, making it difficult for him to extricate himself. Just as Jamie becomes a sales sensation thanks to Viagra, Maggie's condition continues to deteriorate...
