Rigby, the blue-headed turkey (voiced by Owen Wilson), is a unique and unconventional turkey who is fully aware of the fate that he and his kind face upon entering this world: to become dinner on the Thanksgiving table. He has been warning his friends about this fact, but his fellow turkeys mistakenly embrace their captors as allies, even believing that being taken by the farmer will lead to a life of paradise. With another Thanksgiving approaching, Rigby mistakenly becomes the turkey pardoned by the President and ends up living a life of luxury and happiness with the President's family. Until one day, having long forgotten about his foolish fellow turkeys, Rigby is kidnapped by a turkey named Jake (voiced by Woody Harrelson) from the so-called Free Birds Army. Jake will take Rigby to travel through time in a time machine to the first Thanksgiving to change the tragic fate of the turkey species. A bizarre and seemingly impossible mission—can two turkeys change history...?
