A series of bizarre murders occur in Tokyo, with the symbol "X" engraved on all the bodies, and the suspects present have no memory of their actions, leaving the police baffled. Detective Takabe (played by Koji Yakusho) concludes that someone is using hypnosis to commit murder, and a semi-amnesiac youth named Mamiya (played by Masato Hagiwara) wandering along the coast becomes the primary suspect, as teachers, police officers, and a female doctor who have interacted with him all commit murder in a similar manner. Takabe then begins to interrogate Mamiya, but is consistently disrupted by his words, resulting in no progress in the investigation. Additionally, with his wife hospitalized due to mental illness, Takabe’s emotional state deteriorates drastically. His friend, psychologist Sakuma, advises him to avoid further contact with Mamiya, yet he himself becomes gradually controlled by Mamiya, who unconsciously uses hypnosis. Shortly after, Mamiya escapes from the psychiatric hospital, and Sakuma is found dead from suicide. Takabe visits an abandoned hut that Mamiya had mentioned before, where he encounters Mamiya and kills him, with Mamiya dying contentedly. However, everything does not end there…
