The story takes place during the rise of the Roman Empire, when the Atlantic coast had been entirely occupied by the fierce Roman army, leaving only a small Gallic village that was still resisting the invasion. Asterix (voiced by Roger Carel) and Obelix (voiced by Jacques Frantz) are two unknown characters living there, and they are about to accomplish a great task: to rescue the kidnapped Getafix (voiced by Lorànt Deutsch). Although Getafix is the nephew of the Gallic chief, he is extremely timid and cowardly. However, according to ancient legends, such individuals will be granted the ability to fly, which means Getafix has become the village's and its people's only hope for salvation. In the process, Getafix meets the beautiful and gentle Abba (voiced by Sara Forestier) and falls in love.
