The Magic Castle Inn is located in the run-down Kissimmee County, Florida, just a 25-30 minute drive from Disney World in Orlando. Moonee is a precocious six-year-old girl living in a cheap motel room with her young, unemployed mother, Halley, struggling to get by. They survive on junk food and charity help, sometimes resorting to begging or petty theft from the tourists heading to Disney. During summer vacation, Moonee and her friends embark on a series of adventures.
