Bernadette is a gentle lady who is always hopeful about love, and she cares about the lives and feelings of everyone in the book club. She founded the Austin Book Club, which enjoys gathering members to discuss the content of Austen's works, focusing on a specific book at each meeting. Member Jocelyn (played by Maria Bello) has been single for many years, enjoying life with her beloved dog. Her friend Sylvia (played by Amy Brenneman), also a member, faces challenges in her 25-year marriage and has divorced her husband Daniel. One day, Jocelyn coincidentally encounters Greg (played by Hugh Dancy) in the elevator, who later joins the book club, and Jocelyn tries her best to match Greg with Sylvia. However, as Jocelyn sees the two getting closer, she feels an indescribable emotion. In reality, Sylvia has always loved her ex-husband, and Daniel is thinking about reconciling with her. Greg also has a crush, which is Jocelyn. Sylvia's daughter Allegra (played by Maggie Grace) is a lesbian who supports her mother after the divorce and also joins the book club. Allegra is sweet and obedient, but her mother only discovers her daughter's love for extreme sports after she is hospitalized twice due to injuries. However, Allegra's love life is not smooth; her new girlfriend has turned her secrets into a novel, leaving Allegra heartbroken. Prudie (played by Emily Blunt), another member, is a French teacher. However, her unsupportive husband makes her feel helpless and vulnerable, causing her to fall in love with her student Trey. Prudie's views are not fully supported by the other members of the book club, who find her character eccentric. She begins to bond with her new friends while having to make choices about her love life. They enjoy each other's company, and each time they discuss a book, it feels as if they are intertwining their life perspectives with the content. Their lives are deeply influenced by Jane Austen's works, and how will their lives be affected by the six novels that follow?
