Ian (played by Ewan McGregor) and Terry (played by Colin Farrell) are raised by their father, who runs a restaurant. Their mother teaches them to learn from their wealthy Uncle Howard, who is good at business. Terry and his girlfriend have a passion for gambling and often borrow money to go to casinos. After winning some money at a dog racing event, the brothers buy a small yacht and name it "Dream of Cassandra," unaware of the ominous implications of the name. Ian falls in love with Angela, an ambitious girl who dreams of becoming a model or actress. To help her achieve her dream, Ian looks for ways to make money; meanwhile, Terry accrues massive debts due to gambling. Both brothers find themselves in desperate situations. Uncle Howard appears, offering to help on the condition that they must kill their unfavorable business partner. In order to resolve their troubles, the two men murder the target. Everything seems to go smoothly, but a nightmare quietly descends. Terry is plagued by guilt for the murder and hesitates to confess to the police. Ian learns of this and fears that Terry's confession will implicate him, so he seeks out Uncle Howard, and they begin to devise a plan to murder Terry. On the "Dream of Cassandra" yacht, family ties, money, and conscience start to judge each other...
