16-year-old Yuri has always lived in the Gagarin building—a large public housing project located in the suburbs of Paris. He dreams of becoming an astronaut. When the community he loves is about to be demolished, Yuri and his friends form a small resistance alliance, aiming to save the Gagarin building and transform the cold concrete housing into a dreamlike spaceship. The demolition of the old public housing evokes lament from the lower social strata, but the film uses a unique visual style, bold sound design, and unconventional perspectives to soften the bitter helplessness of real events, radiating a captivating youthful energy. Gagarin is not only the code name for the residential building and the surname of a heroic astronaut, but also the footsteps stepping out of the cabin and the perspective of gazing at different stars.
