Olive is a young and talented marine biologist whose deep-sea diving in the Atlantic ends in an accident, resulting in injury and partial memory loss, leading her to lose her dream job. During the incident, she discovers a mysterious creature. Olive secretly brings this creature home, intending to research it in her basement, without her boyfriend Matt knowing. During her recovery while living inland, Olive begins to realize that she shares a symbiotic bond with this creature, which drives her to execute its sinister will. Tormented by terrifying nightmares, she pieces together her fragmented memories of the accident in the deep sea, inadvertently revealing an ancient, horrific evil that she has unleashed.
