At the top of Mount Daibosatsu, Ryuunosuke Tsukijirou (Ichikawa Raizou) strikes down an elderly pilgrim who happened to be present with a single blow. Shocked by her grandfather's death, Omatsu (Yamamoto Fujiko) is rescued by the phantom thief, Nabeshima Shichibei (Mieki Bontarou), and heads towards Edo. Meanwhile, Ryuunosuke, approached by the fiancée of his opponent in the ritual match at Mount Ontake, Bunnojou Tsuchizaki (Nakamura Tamayo), requests her to concede the victory but declines and defeats Bunnojou in the match. After taking the purity of the grieving Omatsu at the watermill, Ryuunosuke takes her as his wife and they head to Edo together. In Edo, Ryuunosuke associates with the Shinsengumi and meets leaders like Kondo Isami (Sugawara Kenji), Serizawa Kamo (Nezami Jun), and Hijikata Toshizou (Chiba Toshirou). The news of Bunnojou's death reaches his younger brother, Hyouma (Hongou Koujirou), who decides to go to Edo to learn from the sword saint, Shimada Toranosuke (Shimada Seigo), to defeat Ryuunosuke's cursed sword. However, he meets Omatsu and falls in love. Hyouma tracks down Ryuunosuke and sends a challenge. Omatsu requests Ryuunosuke to allow her to be killed by Hyouma, but Ryuunosuke kills Omatsu instead and leaves Edo for Kyoto. On the way, he saves Otoyo (Nakamura Tamayo), who bears a striking resemblance to Omatsu, and, relying on Serizawa, joins the Shinsengumi, with Hyouma also entering the ranks of the Shinsengumi under Kondo's help... This is the first film of the "Daibosatsu Pass" trilogy, in which Ichikawa Raizou takes on the role of the nihilistic swordsman, a character previously portrayed by Akouchi Denjirou and Kataoka Chiezo. The renowned novel by Nakazato Kaizan is adapted by Kinugasa Sadanosuke, directed by Misumi Kenji, showcasing a romantic and delicately crafted direction. Raizou displays his cool essence, wielding the cursed sword "Silent Stance" and stirring chaos wherever he goes. Nakamura Tamayo plays dual roles as Omatsu and Otoyo, spreading an enchanting feminine heart.
