The story of Mardy Fish's entry into the world of tennis chronicles his training process as a teenager at the prestigious Saddlebrook Academy, along with his brotherly bond and ongoing rivalry with Andy Roddick. It also introduces the legends he could never quite reach: American tennis icons from the 80s and 90s, John McEnroe, Pete Sampras, and Andre Agassi. In 2010, Fish emerged on the ATP Tour in the best shape of his life, becoming a force to be reckoned with, and topped the World Tour Finals in 2011, becoming the number one seed in the U.S. Shortly after, his anxiety began to escalate. During the quarterfinals of the 2012 U.S. Open against Roger Federer, he tried to overcome the mental pressure. However, the gradually spreading feelings of fear and pain worsened day by day, and everything came to a halt. Fish withdrew from the match and was later diagnosed with severe anxiety. The news of his withdrawal from the tennis world, as the number one American male tennis player, was shocking, and for the next few years, he essentially vanished from public view, spending months at home. After seeking professional help, he overcame his trauma and publicly shared his struggles to help eliminate anxiety and provide a role model for other athletes dealing with their mental health issues. Fish later became the coach of the U.S. Davis Cup team and described his anxiety as: "It's a battle every day, but I win every day."
