In 1926 Copenhagen, landscape painter Einar (played by Eddie Redmayne) and portrait artist Gerda (played by Alicia Vikander) become husband and wife. When their model cancels, Gerda persuades Einar to wear women's clothing to complete the painting. This unexpected event awakens a female identity within Einar named "Lili," who becomes Gerda's muse and propels her to fame. However, as Lili's persona awakens, Einar begins to despise his male body and gradually realizes that Lili is not only an artistic existence but also his true self. Gerda never anticipated that this spontaneous act would create such a seismic shift in her life, leaving her to question how to continue loving her partner. Amid various social criticisms and misunderstandings, they remain devoted to each other, and ultimately, Gerda encourages Einar to fully embrace becoming Lili... Based on the life of the world’s first transgender person, "The Danish Girl" tells a love story that transcends gender and orientation, recounting the legendary tale of a Danish painter who was one of the first to undergo gender reassignment surgery and his wife. The film is directed by Oscar-winning director Tom Hooper and was nominated for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
