In the future, Earth can no longer support such a large population, so humanity needs to venture into space to find other habitable planets. During the search for suitable planets, humans begin training apes to perform simple tasks instead of themselves. During a flight mission, astronaut Leo (played by Mark Wahlberg) loses contact with the space station when the ape-piloted spacecraft encounters a cosmic storm. In an attempt to rescue his partner, Leo defies orders and pilots the spacecraft into the heart of the storm alone. Ultimately, the spacecraft crashes on an unfamiliar planet. When Leo wakes up, he is captured by a group of apes. After careful observation, he discovers that on this planet, apes possess high intelligence and dominate, while real humans have become slaves to the apes. To escape his predicament, Leo receives help from the ape matriarch, Ari (played by Helena Bonham Carter), and begins his journey of escape. During the escape, the signal receiver Leo is carrying gradually picks up signals from the mother ship. As everyone follows the signal, they realize that their destination is the place where the ancestors of the apes first originated, and Leo recognizes that this is the original mother ship. What exactly happened?
