Seicho Matsumoto's novel "Kite" will be adapted into a film for the first time. The novel previously won the "Most Touching Story Selection by the Public at Kadokawa Bunko." The film will be directed by Keisuke Yoshida ([Story of Heaven]), with Hiroshi Abe and Takumi Kitamura ([A Short Story About Coffee]) playing a father and son. The story takes place in 1980s Japan, where Yasuo Ichikawa is an employee at a freight company. His wife, Misako Ichikawa, has just given birth to their son, Asahi; however, a tragic accident costs Misako her life. To protect Asahi, Yasuo and those around him decide not to tell him about his mother's accident. The film will be released in Japan in 2022.
