The story takes place during World War II, where the air raids by Nazi Germany inflicted severe losses on the U.S. Army's Eighth Air Force. The long and drawn-out war caused the morale and fighting spirit of the U.S. troops to nearly vanish, pushing them to the brink of despair. However, the dire situation did not allow them a moment's relaxation or respite. At this critical juncture, headquarters dispatched a new commander, Frank Savage (played by Gregory Peck), to take over the group. In the face of fierce attacks from the Germans and heavy losses in his ranks, Frank remained determined and unafraid, leading his troops with iron discipline and by example, fighting fiercely against the Germans. Frank's extraordinary demeanor and indomitable spirit deeply inspired every member of his unit, allowing the group to regroup and achieve significant victories. The film won two Oscars at the 22nd Academy Awards in 1950 for Best Supporting Actor and Best Sound, and received nominations for Best Picture and Best Actor.
