Brian Clough (played by Michael Sheen) leads Derby County Football Club, struggling in the second division, while his rivalry with the strong first division team Leeds United began in the 1968 FA Cup. In that match, Derby lost to Leeds, and after the game, Brian criticized Leeds for their brutal playing style. Leeds' coach, Don Revie (played by Colm Meaney), was equally confrontational. Derby later signed several good players, and under Brian's guidance, they successfully climbed to the first division. When they met Leeds again, they lost once more. However, Derby eventually clinched the league title. On the path to success, Peter Taylor (played by Timothy Spall) was Brian's best partner. As Don became the new coach of the England national team, Brian also accepted an invitation from Leeds United to become their new coach. However, the Leeds players were filled with hostility towards him. Don Revie frequently attacked his successor. Brian's days at Leeds were tough; what kind of future awaits him with the damned united Leeds United?
