Louis Winthorpe III (Dan Aykroyd), a successful Wall Street investor. Billy Ray Valentine (Eddie Murphy), a homeless man who pretends to be a disabled veteran to beg on the streets. Two people living in completely different worlds unexpectedly change their destinies due to a bet. Louis works at the brokerage of Randolph and Mortimer Duke and enjoys a prestigious position and generous benefits. Billy accidentally enters an upscale club while being chased by the police and meets Louis. Louis turns him over to the police, but the Duke brothers, who witness the whole event, have a different opinion and decide to swap the identities and statuses of the two men through a bet, leading to an absurd and ridiculous fate swap.
