Paper-cutting artist Yaeko Sawada (Sayuri Yoshinaga) and Hakodate Daily reporter Kiyotaka Torigai (Shima Iwashita) have been very close friends since their university days. They once participated together in the famous security movement and fell in love with the same man (Ryozan Hayashi). After graduation, they lived apart in Tokyo and Hakodate, working hard for their own lives. One day, Yaeko is diagnosed with a serious illness, and after her second surgery, she moves to Hakodate, where the two long-separated good friends meet again. Previously, Kiyotaka maintained a romantic relationship with her newspaper colleague Kosuke Takao (Koji Tamaki), while Yaeko's gentle and serene nature deeply attracts Kosuke. He cannot suppress the overwhelming love in his heart, which puts the two friends in a conflicting dilemma... This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Japanese author Nobuko Takagi.
