Matt (played by Denzel Washington) and his wife Alex (played by Eva Mendes), who are both police officers, have been in a cold war for a long time, and their years of marriage are on the verge of collapse. At this critical moment, Ann (played by Sanaa Lathan), a girl Matt once had a crush on, moves back to town with her husband Chris (played by Dean Cain), who is paralyzed.
