Plot A French boy and an Arab boy have been street delinquents since childhood. Lacking the warmth of family and social attention, they find joy in stealing. However, when their supposedly most foolish classmate becomes a millionaire, they are left stunned. After leaving their jobs and falling into the confusion of love, both are eventually taken away by the police. By then, they have lost all hope in life, with nothing left but their unchanging friendship. More plot details >> Behind the Scenes This film belongs to the "Beur" cinema, which reflects the works of Algerian descendants in France. The director, Medhi Charef, is of Algerian descent, and this film is adapted from his autobiographical novel, candidly depicting the dark realities of French society at the time. The film underscores the theme of desiring to dismantle racial barriers and living peacefully regardless of skin color and ethnicity. The narrative technique of the film is quite ordinary, with a retro feel enhanced by a "play within a play" style, which adds a touch of irony. The psychological portrayal of the characters is detailed and accurate, making this a work of social realism that showcases the lives of youth from the lower strata of society.
