Chicago in the 1930s was rife with chaos, dominated by gangsters and collusion between officials and businesses. Among them, the gangster boss Capone (played by Robert De Niro) who controlled the illegal alcohol market was the most powerful. Even in such a dark environment, federal agent Ness (played by Kevin Costner) held onto his ideal of bringing down corruption, but soon reality taught him who the real boss was. With the help of veteran detective Malone (played by Sean Connery), Ness regained his confidence and organized a special task force dedicated to investigating and combating Capone's criminal empire. Under Ness's efforts, the group's actions began to yield results, but soon the threats and persecution from Capone followed. Team members were killed, and Malone was injured, yet none of this could deter Ness; instead, it strengthened his resolve to eliminate Capone, leading to an intense battle between justice and evil.
