One day, the orphanage contacted Celestina (played by Valérie Karsenti), hoping she would consider adopting little Paul Karadek (played by Jean Scandel). Celestina felt conflicted because she knew Paul’s birth mother and was aware of some of his background, so she initially refused the request. However, when she witnessed Paul’s tragic situation at the orphanage, her sympathy and sense of responsibility compelled her to make a decision, taking the risk to accept the child. Celestina, concealing Paul’s identity, took him to the estate where she worked. Her husband Borel (played by Eric Elmosnino) was a forest ranger, passionate about protecting wildlife, particularly despising the poacher Totosh. Totosh was clever and resourceful, often escaping Borel’s pursuit, which frustrated him greatly. However, under Celestina's arrangement, Paul met Totosh and they formed a special friendship. He began learning about the forest and hunting alongside Totosh, making his childhood rich and colorful.
