The story takes place 5,000 years ago in Egypt. Pharaoh Khufu (Jack Hawkins) triumphs in battles, bringing back a wealth of gold, silver, and captives. Fantasizing about achieving immortality, the Pharaoh orders a captive named Vashtath (James Robertson Justice), an architect, to build a pyramid for him. Vashtath and Khufu reach an agreement to release the captives in batches as the pyramid project progresses. As the construction of the pyramid proceeds smoothly, just as the project is nearing completion, the ambitious queen Nefrit (Joan Collins) assassinated Khufu and Queen Nela (Kerima). In the final moments, the royal priest Hama (Alex Minotis) honors Khufu's promise and releases Vashtath and his people.
