The low-ranking samurai, Yoshinosuke, kills his master after being denied his request for reform. The master's daughter, Misa, her husband Harada, and the skilled warrior Shingo lead a group of samurai to hunt down Yoshinosuke, who begins his journey of escape. During his flight, Yoshinosuke meets another low-ranking samurai, Toshihisa, who is focused on panning for gold by the river with his wife in hopes of escaping his lowly status. However, this gold panning is prohibited by the government. Yoshinosuke wants to steal Toshihisa's gold, while three wandering samurai also covet it. The group hunting Yoshinosuke arrives at this location, and Toshihisa's tribe wants to kill him to silence him. Amid their similar circumstances, a bond forms between Yoshinosuke and Toshihisa, as heroes recognize each other. The three wandering samurai capture Toshihisa's wife, coercing him into handing over the hidden gold. Misa also faces assault, and a large group of skilled warriors from Toshihisa's tribe arrives, making a fierce battle inevitable...
