Deaf-mute young man Maku (played by Makki Kurato) is a cleaner. While clearing a pile of garbage, he discovers a discarded broken surfboard. After repairing it, he takes his girlfriend Kuiko (played by Hiroko Oshima), who is also deaf-mute, to the beach to practice. Maku's love for surfing escalates to obsession; he practices tirelessly at the beach after work, while Kuiko sits on the shore, watching him with a smile. Day by day, Maku's skills improve. The owner of a surf shop gifts Maku a wetsuit and gives him an application form to participate in a surfing competition. On the day of the competition, Maku and Kuiko excitedly head to the beach but, due to unfortunate circumstances, Maku is unable to compete. Nevertheless, Maku's passion for surfing remains undiminished, and Kuiko continues to support him. In later competitions, Maku achieves success. A few days later, Maku goes to the beach to practice again. Kuiko arrives late and doesn’t see Maku; all that greets her is a quiet sea.
