The film tells the story of the protagonist, a somewhat introverted and pessimistic girl named Noriko (played by Ai Hashimoto), as she experiences life from the age of 17 to 25. Noriko lost her mother (played by Aoi Miyazaki) when she was 10, and her mother had long known that her time was limited, so she made a promise to send Noriko a birthday card every year until she turned 20. Despite going through various troubles such as friendship, love, and marriage during her growth, the birthday cards remained a source of strength for Noriko, accompanying her as she grew up.
