Screenplay: Huiying Liao, Hsiaohsien Hou The Minnan people use "oilseed hemp" to metaphorically describe a woman's fate, saying that they drift like oilseed hemp, landing where they may grow. Xiqin comes from a wealthy family in Taiwan; she is a pampered young lady who, after marrying Li Shijun, often faces neglect and abuse from her husband. Li Shijun indulges in extramarital affairs and even sells her dowry for frivolous spending. She can only endure and manage household affairs, giving birth to children. At home, her son A-Hsiung is spoiled by his father, enjoying food, fun, and shirking work. In contrast, her daughter A-Hui does not receive her father's affection. One day, her husband's scandal of seducing another man’s wife is exposed, prompting Xiqin to sell all her possessions to quell the troubles. The whole family later moves to Taipei to seek a new way of living. From then on, the couple's household roles are reversed, with Xiqin becoming the ruler of the family. However, she also favors her son over her daughter; A-Hsiung continues to be indulged, while A-Hui, despite her excellent academic performance, is burdened with numerous household chores. During this time, the father's attitude towards A-Hui improves, showering her with affection. After enduring a period of hardship in Taipei, their financial situation gradually improves. Xiqin becomes more concerned with fashion and seeks pleasure. She interferes in A-Hui's romantic life, forbidding her from marrying her beloved Lih Wei. However, upon graduating from university, A-Hui refuses to accept a fate like that of the oilseed hemp and ultimately marries her cherished Lih Wei. In the end, Xiqin acknowledges A-Hui's choice.
