In a place called Azhodi, the beautiful Sani girl Ashima (played by Yang Likun) is skilled, kind-hearted, and has a sweet singing voice. Many young men and women travel great distances just to catch a glimpse of her beauty. Among these brave and honest young men, the most outstanding is Ahei (played by Bao Si'er), who wins Ashima's heart. They are a perfect match, deeply in love, to the envy of others, but this angers the chief's son, Azhai (played by Han Fei). Azhai covets Ashima's beauty and tries every possible way to deceive her, but Ashima, like a cold and thorny rose, remains resolute. In response, Azhai employs various tricks in an attempt to tear this couple apart... This film is adapted from the ancient folk narrative poem of the Sani ethnic group and won the Best Dance Film Award at the first International Music Festival in Santander, Spain, in 1982.
