In Paris, an American man (played by Ben Affleck) encounters a single mother, a French woman (played by Olga Kurylenko). He brings her and her daughter to live in America. In America, the American man and the French woman are living happily together. Although they are not yet married, her daughter gradually begins to see him as a father. However, soon the daughter grows tired of life in a foreign country, and the French woman's visa expires, forcing the mother and daughter to return to Paris. A priest (played by Javier Bardem) preaches about God and love. In America, the American man unexpectedly reunites with his childhood friend, an American woman (played by Rachel McAdams), and reignites their romance. In Paris, the daughter lives with her father, while the French woman struggles to find a job and grows tired of Paris. She decides to pack her bags and come to America to find the American man, preparing to marry him. But everything seems to be more complicated than it appears.
