This film is set in the early Joseon era and humorously recounts the history of King Sejo's usurpation. The descendant of a treacherous minister, Kim Naegyeong (played by Song Kang-ho), possesses the skill of reading faces to recognize people but can only live a secluded life in the wilderness with his brother-in-law (played by Cho Jung-seok) and son Jeonheung (played by Lee Jong-suk) due to his low status. The owner of Hanyang's largest brothel (played by Kim Hae-soo) visits Kim Naegyeong specifically to persuade him to come to Hanyang to make money through his skills, but he faces misunderstanding from Jeonheung. After arriving in Hanyang, Kim Naegyeong cautiously navigates his way to wealth and gains the admiration of loyal minister Kim Jong-seo (played by Byeon Yo-han), even earning the trust of the king. However, due to his remarkable abilities, Kim Naegyeong finds himself caught up in the power struggle for the throne between the king's younger brother, Grand Prince Suyang (played by Lee Jung-jae), and it also drags his son, who has changed his name and achieved top marks, into trouble. Kim Naegyeong decides to help Kim Jong-seo and the young king thwart Grand Prince Suyang's conspiracy, but while he can see into people's hearts, he cannot determine their fates. The tides of history continue to flow ceaselessly.
