Entering the Meiji era, the former "executioner Battousai" Kenshin Himura (played by Takeru Satoh) has grown accustomed to the peaceful life at the Kamiya Dojo. However, on this day, an old friend from the Bakumatsu period—Okubo Toshimichi (played by Kazushi Miyazawa), one of the Sanninhon—and asks him to come. It turns out that Shishio Makoto (played by Tatsuya Fujiwara), who has inherited Kenshin's executioner title, was betrayed by the new government and has been secretly planning a terrifying scheme to dominate Japan.
