The Clone Wars have been going on for three years, and the Republic is on the verge of victory. General Grievous of the Separatists and Count Dooku (played by Christopher Lee) kidnap Chancellor Palpatine (played by Ian McDiarmid) and go into hiding. Jedi Knights Obi-Wan Kenobi (played by Ewan McGregor) and Anakin Skywalker (played by Hayden Christensen) are dispatched by the Senate to rescue him. Anakin kills Count Dooku to save Palpatine, but General Grievous escapes. Anakin dreams that his wife Padmé Amidala (played by Natalie Portman) will die in childbirth. Confused, he turns to Palpatine for help, who then uses this opportunity to sow discord between Anakin and the Jedi Council. As Anakin drifts closer to Palpatine, a plot against the Jedi and the democracy they protect gradually unfolds.
